Community engagement is at the heart of the QCSO's strategic initiative. So when an innovative, young artist like Joshua Roman became available [it] immediately clicked as a great opportunity to do something different. After a stint as principal cello with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Roman has made a name for himself performing both in small clubs around Seattle and soloing across the country. While he is in town, we will see both sides of Joshua Roman.
Attendees are then invited to enjoy wine and cheese at the Figge Art Museum, while discusssing the upcoming concerts with Music Director Mark Russell Smith. "Inside the Music" will begin a little later than usual, with food served at 6 pm and the presentation beginng 6:30. Expert and novice alike are sure to enjoy this casual musical conversation. Thanks to generous sponsorship from U.S. Bank, this event is free to the public.
Music Director Mark Russell Smith and cellist Joshua Roman will also be making an appearance at Concert Conversations, hosted by Kai Swanson an hour before each of the weekend's concerts. At Concert Conversations, audience members are given a quick tour of highlights from the program they are about to experience. This look into the background of the concert's repertoire, sponsored by Rich James of Wachovia Securities, is in its tenth year and has become an audience favorite.
The concert at the RME and Inside the Music are both free to the public. Tickets for the Masterworks concerts start at $10 and can be purchased in person at the QCSO Box Office, 327 Brady Street in Davenport, by phone at 800.982.2787 or online at www.QCSymphony.com.
