Education & Outreach Tours
The Quad City Symphony Orchestra Association presents music education programs in concert halls, in classrooms, and in the community. For over 50 years School Outreach Tours have been the foundation of QCSO music education services and have annually provided essential music instruction to tens of thousands Quad City students. The tours travel to public and private schools January through April introducing children to music fundamentals and instruments through sequential presentations of orchestral repertoire using a variety of interactive techniques.

STRING TOUR reaches elementary as well as middle/junior high school children each season with an informative narrative performance, this string ensemble is the cornerstone of the QCSO's outreach efforts. The current members are listed below:

  • Ben Lorentzen, Viola
  • James Ellis, Cello

BRASS TOUR is made up of The Iowa Brass Quintet, based at the University of Iowa. They are engaged to tour elementary as well as middle/junior high schools each season. The current members are listed below:
  • David Greenhoe, Trumpet
  • Brian Umlah , Trumpet
  • Jeffrey Agrell, French Horn
  • David Gier, Trombone
  • John Manning, Tuba


WOODWIND TOUR is offered for elementary as well as middle/junior high schools as an introduction to the orchestra's wind instrument family by the Augustana Woodwind Quintet. The current members are listed below:
  • Janet Stodd, Flute & Piccolo
  • Susan Bawden, Bassoon
  • Sue Schwaegler, Clarinet
  • Denise Morton, Oboe
  • Lee Kessinger, French Horn

All programs are offered at no cost to participants. Funding for the Quad City Symphony Orchestra's music education programs is provided by Volunteers for Symphony (VfS) and the organizations listed below:
