LISTENING OLYMPICS
is a fun and interactive competition, designed in a "spelling bee"
format, that tests fifth grade students' knowledge of classical music
elements including titles, composers, families of instruments, period,
and style. Students study music examples and answer questions like:
"Who is the composer?" or "Is this music from the classical or romantic
period?"
This innovative, interdisciplinary program, now in its
10th season, is designed to strengthen overall listening skills and
teamwork. The QCSO distributes preparatory classroom materials to
regional music teachers at no charge to the schools or students.
Winning teams are presented at the Quad City Youth Symphony Orchestra's
Symphony Day concert on April 13, 2010, at the Adler Theatre.
